The tour focuses at two symbols of the Nazi’s “Reinhard Operation”, aimed at extermination of the Jews living in German-occupied Poland, as well as in other European countries.
You will see Umschlagplatz – the area in Warsaw ghetto where the Jews were gathered before being transported to Treblinka death camp. I will show you archival photos from 1942 so you can compare them with the present view of this area. We will also see the Umschlagplatz monument.
We will then drive to the place where all those people were sent – Treblinka extermination camp. The camp operated between 23 July 1942 and 19 October 1943 and during this period 700,000 – 900,000 Jews were killed in its gas chambers, along with 2,000 Romani people. After the revolt of the prisoners in August 1943 the camp was liquidated by the Nazis, who tried to remove any evidence of it. Today there is the Museum of Struggle and Martyrdom with the memorial monument surrounded by 17,000 stones symbolizing the tragedy of thousands of people.
